All-on-4 implant dentures can give patients who have lost all their teeth a brand-new smile as secure and beautiful as a natural one. If you don’t have enough jawbone to support traditional implant dentures, All-on-4 dentures may be an option. Even patients with diminished jawbones can support All-on-4 dentures without bone grafts.
For traditional implant dentures, four to eight titanium implant posts are inserted vertically. To accomplish this, there needs to be a significant amount of bone present. If there isn’t enough bone, bone grafts can be placed. All-on-4 implant dentures work differently. To give All-on-4s their unique stability, some of the implant posts are inserted at an angle. Much less bone is then required.
Benefits of Implant Dentures
Implant-based dentures are far more stable than removable dentures. They never slip when you speak, and since they put no weight on gum tissue, they don’t pinch or cause sores. They also allow you to eat crunchy and chewy foods.
When a person loses all their teeth, their jawbone begins to deteriorate. This is a natural process, and the only way to stop it is replace the missing teeth with implants. Implant dentures not only immediately restore your appearance, but they also prevent long-term atrophy of the jawbone that can ultimately make it impossible to comfortably wear any type of denture.
Getting Teeth-in-a-Day®
One advantage of All-on-4 implant dentures is you can get your new smile the same day the implants are placed. That’s why this procedure is also called Teeth-in-a-Day®.
There are several steps to giving you a new smile:
- Planning. After your initial consultation and exam, Dr. Dang will determine the best placement for your dental implants. He’ll take digital impressions of your mouth and gums and 3-D x-rays of your jaw.
- Surgery. Before placing the implants, we’ll ensure you’re completely numb. Then, our oral surgeon will insert the titanium implant posts into your jaw. Afterward, Dr. Dang will affix your denture to the implants, which you will wear home. If you received sedation during surgery, you’ll need someone to take you home.
- Aftercare. The titanium implants will take about three months to integrate with your jawbone fully. Until your implant sites fully heal, you’ll need to eat only soft foods.
- Final follow-up appointment. Dr. Dang will see you for a follow-up appointment in three months for aftercare and denture realignment.
